Back home

So I’m back home for the month and not surfing the net or posting here as much but I just wanted to talk about one thing.

Holy baby jesus, mother of god, son of bitch but does the service industry in the U.S. ever suck ass.

Seriously. I posted about this before in an incoherent late night rant, but being back here for the first time in nearly 2 years this is really bugging me. Japan has its fair share of problems and everything, but seriously the service in Japan beats the holy hell out of the U.S.

It has gotten to the point that I actually want some of these people to die horribly because they are simply so ignorant of other people (customers and co-workers both).

My new goal in life is to become boss of everything and fire fucking everybody =P

I actually ran across a comic by a recent commentor here that I thought summed things up nicely. All-around funny comic as well.

thanks for the link! yeah my friends just spent a couple months in Japan, and it sounded like despite crosscultural confusion (“gaijin who can speak English?? impossible!!”) the service was better all around. Just once I want to walk into an American store and hear “irrashaimase!”

No sweat about the link. Thanks for the free comics =) Not too many readers here (about 30 daily uniques, and then a bunch of RSS people) but hopefully someone else will get a kick out of it too.

As for the whole service thing, I don’t actually think I am asking too much, but I’d like to be treated with something other than contempt when I am a customer at a store. Most of the people in retail here seem to view customers as an unfortunate nuisance they are forced to deal with.

Japan has its rough spots as well, and customer service there can be bad for foreigners at times (one of the travel agencies was recently busted for charging foreigners more than natives based on nothing more than race/nationality) but in general service is much better than here.

Funnily enough after just posting this rant the other day, my wife has come down with a mild case of food poisoning no doubt caused by one of the wonderful service industry people here in good ole Philly =P
