No sweat about the link. Thanks for the free comics =) Not too many readers here (about 30 daily uniques, and then a bunch of RSS people) but hopefully someone else will get a kick out of it too.

As for the whole service thing, I don't actually think I am asking too much, but I'd like to be treated with something other than contempt when I am a customer at a store. Most of the people in retail here seem to view customers as an unfortunate nuisance they are forced to deal with.

Japan has its rough spots as well, and customer service there can be bad for foreigners at times (one of the travel agencies was recently busted for charging foreigners more than natives based on nothing more than race/nationality) but in general service is much better than here.

Funnily enough after just posting this rant the other day, my wife has come down with a mild case of food poisoning no doubt caused by one of the wonderful service industry people here in good ole Philly =P

thanks for the link! yeah my friends just spent a couple months in Japan, and it sounded like despite crosscultural confusion ("gaijin who can speak English?? impossible!!") the service was better all around. Just once I want to walk into an American store and hear "irrashaimase!"
