More I hate Sony stuff

I did a late night rant awhile back about how and why I hate Sony and just found a new reason…

Sony hired one of those “viral” advertising agencies to do a campaign for them where some apparently illiterate wannabe rapping monkey posts videos to youtube of himself dancing around and “rapping” about how he wants a psp, and also maintains a blog full of “hip intraweb l1ng0, wtf, FTW r0ckz0rs!” and some people over at something awful busted them.

It’s great. The consumerist reposted the now mysteriously missing in action videos (posted below, let me know if this goes down I will re-host them here if I have to) and the scandal is being covered by all kinds of news outlets and websites as well as being accompanied by some interesting (and very welcome, if not extraordinarily belated) words from the Federal Trade Commision.

Here’s the horrendous “rap” video. Only watch if you’re willing to lose a few braincells.

And here’s a video someone compiled chronicling the whole mess:

After getting busted the “phake” sony blog now reads:

Busted. Nailed. Snagged. As many of you have figured out (maybe our speech was a little too funky fresh???), Peter isn’t a real hip-hop maven and this site was actually developed by Sony. Guess we were trying to be just a little too clever. From this point forward, we will just stick to making cool products, and use this site to give you nothing but the facts on the PSP.

Sony Computer Entertainment America

To which a fellow going by the handle of Stray over at the Something Awful forums replied:

Too late, SCEA. Your phony site belies your phony nature and your obviously condescending nature towards the people who buy your products. Gamers are smart and can often detect bullshit very quickly. You should have *known* that an obvious stunt like this would be found out very quickly. You now look like a middle-aged white guy trying to speak street lingo. Oh wait…that’s exactly what you are!

See if I buy a PSP now, suckers. I’m feeling better and better about my DS every day. At least Nintendo isn’t treating me like a whore or a stupid kid.

Fuck you, Sony.

Which other than the bits about nintendo (I own a used game cube, but I have no intention to buy either of their newer toys) about sums up my feelings.

Oh, and also via The Consumerist, a handy dandy FTC complaint form! Come on everybody! Show our favorite corporations your love!
