Sedlec Ossuary

The wonders of Wikipedia.

Somehow I ended up going from reading about pirates to stumbling on this. Is there anyone other than me who finds this a bit more disturbed than “touching” or “holy”?

The Sedlec Ossuary (Czech: kostnice Sedlec) is a small Christian chapel, located beneath the Cemetery Church of All Saints (Czech: Hřbitovní kostel Všech Svatých) in Sedlec, a suburb of Kutná Hora in the Czech Republic. The ossuary contains approximately 40,000 human skeletons which have been artistically arranged to form decorations and furnishings for the chapel.

Pirates!

So for some reason I am on a pirate kick today and found a bunch of interesting stuff. Probably has something to do with the release of Pirates of the Carribean 2, won’t be out here for another 2 weeks unfortunately… not that I really have the time to go see it, but not having time has never stopped me from doing anything else =0

First lots of information (Wikipedia is evil, it’s like crack cocaine to me, I go there to look up one thing and then between all the linked info and Firefox’s tabbed browsing I am sitting digging through Wikipedia articles for hours on end instead of working, then when I am done I come here and write about it! HAH! It’s amazing I ever get any work done!)

Buccaneer – Probably the type of pirates we are all most familiar with.

Piracy – The real kind, not the kind the RIAA and MPAA made up.

Jolly Roger – The flag not Captain Hook’s ship

I won’t link to the entire wikipedia, if you visit any of the above links you can probably find enough links yourself.

As for the non-wikipedia sites.

A site all about pirates (real ones not the ridiculous ninjas vs. pirates crap floating around the net lately, is it just me or does it sometime seem like people intentionally try to invent new ways to remain ignorant?)

And another great pirates site.

And finally another site specifically about Blackbeard (Edward Teach) but with lots of info about pirates and piracy in general.

Also while on the subject of pirates, I also stumbled upon a site with all the music from all 4 Monkey Island games available for download for free! If you don’t know What Monkey Island is go check out the Wikipedia article here, it’s the greatest point and click adventure series ever made. (They’ve got soundtracks for a lot of other Lucasarts games as well).

And if you’re interested a couple of related items I found interesting from Amazon. (Unfortunately they didn’t have Curse of Monkey Island, which I think is the best game in the series)

BumpTop Desktop

Interesting video of a new desktop/file management concept.

What do you think? Me, I think it looks neat but of very little practical use to me. I don’t think I need to carry my habit of leaving stuff in piles over to the virtual world as well.
And what’s with the pronunciation? Lasso becomes lasoo and G.U.I. is gooey :P

Bedtimes

An interesting article about bed times and sleep.

A Southampton University study following 1,229 people over 25 years found that those who stayed up really late and slept in the next day suffered no ill-effects, and were, in fact, a little bit wealthier.

Bag End Doll House

Obelia medusa made an incredibly well-done replica doll-house of bag end from the Lord of the Rings movies.
